Senior Data Engineer

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with analysts to understand needs.
• Design, deploy, and maintain databases for storage of large and small data sets.
• Develop and maintain ETL infrastructure to populate databases.
• Work autonomously while consulting others to prioritize objectives.

Team requirements

• Must be comfortable managing Linux Servers from the command line.
• Experience with development in Python.
• Comfortable with git for version control and using code review tools, e.g. Gerrit.
• Use of configuration Management tools e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Salt.
• Use of and writing checks for network management, e.g. CheckMK.

Focus requirements

• Deploy and maintain SQL databases, e.g. Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, etc.
• Develop and maintain ORMs and other infrastructure to query databases.
• Apache tools for data management, i.e.Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive.
• Experience deploying and maintaining Big Data / NoSQL databases, e.g. Druid, Cassandra, Influx, MongoDB, etc.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional experience as a Systems Engineer with a data focus.
• Experience with time-series databases, e.g. Druid, Influx, TimescaleDB.
• Use of reporting tools, e.g. Grafana.
• Experience with clustering databases, maintaining ORM models, e.g. SQLAlchemy, Entity Framework.
• Experience writing code to coding standards and using formatters and linters.
• Managing multi-terabyte datasets.
• Understanding Virtualization and Containers, i.e. VMWare Docker.
