Staff Engineer

About the Role

This is a hybrid Staff Engineer + Product Owner role.

You will be the most senior hands-on technical contributor on the team while also owning the product vision and roadmap for the automation platform. The role combines deep technical leadership, daily coding, and product ownership.

You will lead a small engineering team and act as the primary interface between the platform and its internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and write production code on a daily basis (Python, Go).
• Design, evolve, and refactor a complex automation platform.
• Safely modernize legacy systems in production.
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
• Define engineering standards and lead technical decision-making.
• Own the product vision, roadmap, and prioritization.
• Balance technical debt, delivery speed, and long-term maintainability.
• Act as the main point of contact for teams relying on the platform.
• Mentor engineers and lead a team of 4–5 developers.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements (Must-Have)

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years operating at Senior or Staff level.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python.
• Solid experience with at least one additional language (Go, Java, or similar).
• Deep understanding of Linux systems (processes, permissions, shell, networking, packaging).
• Proven experience refactoring and modernizing legacy systems in production.
• Strong background with CI/CD systems (GitLab CI and/or GitHub Actions).
• Experience owning a product or internal tool end-to-end.
• Ability to define technical roadmaps and manage trade-offs.
• High ownership mindset; comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• Strong communication skills in English, able to clearly explain technical concepts.

Nice to Have

• Experience with vulnerability management, CVE / CVSS, or security backporting.
• Linux packaging experience (RPM, DEB).
• Familiarity with Python, Java, or Go ecosystems.
• Practical use of LLMs / AI tools in daily development workflows.
• Background in platform, infrastructure, or enablement teams.
