Engineering Manager at Communication Vendor Platform.
We are launching a new, strategically focused Communication Vendor Platform team at Plata by spinning it off from the core platform. This move allows for a dedicated focus on building a world-class bridge between our internal systems and our global communication partners. Your mission will be to lead this newly independent team, shaping its identity and strategy as it takes full ownership of our vendor integrations. This is a crucial leadership role where you will sharpen the team's focus to directly enable Plata's international growth by mastering the complexities of global communication delivery.
As an Engineering Manager, you will have the unique opportunity to evolve its culture, sharpen its strategy, and own its technical roadmap. You'll inherit a talented group of engineers from our core platform and guide them towards powering Plata's global communication strategy with clear business impact. You'll operate with significant autonomy, making key decisions on architecture, vendor management, and the tooling necessary to drive down costs and push deliverability rates to their peak. Your work will be essential to every engineering team at Plata that relies on your platform to connect with our customers.

- Lead, mentor, and grow the team, guiding its existing members through this strategic transition while fostering a distinct culture of ownership and engineering excellence.
- Take full ownership of our communication deliverability and cost metrics, developing the strategies and technical solutions to continuously improve them.
- Drive the technical strategy for integrating with and managing external communication vendors (SMS, WhatsApp, Email), ensuring robustness and scalability for a global audience.
- Architect and build the core infrastructure, ancillary services, and internal tooling required for a high-performing, reliable communication delivery platform.
- Partner with internal engineering teams—your customers—to understand their needs and provide a seamless, high-quality service platform they can depend on.
- Develop a long-term vision for the Communication Vendor Platform, balancing immediate delivery needs with future-proof architectural decisions.
What makes you a great fit
- Proven experience leading a software engineering team, with a strong ability to manage transitions, mentor engineers through evolving responsibilities, and drive team growth.
- A strong technical foundation with 4+ years in backend software development, particularly building robust, high-scale, distributed systems.
- Deep experience designing, building, and operating high-throughput systems in production environments. Experience with third-party API integrations is a major plus.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with an ability to work effectively with both internal engineering customers and external partners.
- A strategic, product-oriented mindset with the ability to connect technical solutions to core business metrics like cost and reliability.
- Comfortable in our primary tech environment: JVM languages (Java/Kotlin), Kubernetes, and AWS.
- An innate curiosity, a bias for action, and a deep understanding of what it takes to build resilient, fault-tolerant systems.
- Ability to learn quickly, curiosity, collaboration skills.
