Staff Backend Engineer

Relocation from the Russian Federation and Belarus is mandatory.

We're seeking a Staff Backend Engineer in WatchDocs team.

The team is developing a service for checking and verifying user documents in the inDrive app, creating our own KYC platform scalable to the international market.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a cross-functional engineering team (Backend, Frontend, QA), ensuring alignment on goals, priorities, and delivery.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship across different domains, with a focus on backend but also supporting frontend and QA best practices.
• Drive architectural decisions and maintain long term technical vision for the platform, balancing innovation with pragmatic delivery.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to define requirements, break down projects, and ship features end to end.
• Optimize applications for scalability, performance, and reliability across multiple geographies.
• Foster collaboration within the team: enable smooth handoffs between development, testing, and deployment.
• Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, development standards, and quality practices across backend, frontend, and QA Lead and participate in code reviews across domains, ensuring maintainability, consistency, and knowledge sharing Support the career growth of engineers in different specializations, providing feedback, coaching, and guidance.
• Ensure delivery predictability: drive sprint planning, prioritization, and progress tracking in alignment with business goals.
• Cultivate a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience with Golang. Proficient in APIs and microservices architecture, including design and implementation.
• Strong experience with SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and familiarity with non-relational databases.
• Experience with event driven architectures and messaging systems, e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ. Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack.
• Good grasp of server side and client side development limitations.
• Ability to select and implement technical solutions within a team setting.
• Passion for learning new technologies and collaborating with others, with a commitment to continuous skill development.
