Cattle Care, a California-based, already profitable startup, is looking for a Senior Fullstack Developer with significant Tech Lead experience.

We are a startup in the true sense of the word. And that means, among other things, that our deadlines are always yesterday. But at the same time, we know how detrimental technical debt can be for future development. Therefore, it is absolutely critical for us that the Tech Lead understands and can maintain the right balance between the quality of the code and the speed of development.

We are looking for a person who will oversee our tech strategy. This role will involve writing code, mentoring and reviewing code from developers, hiring and developing the tech team, defining tools/architecture/process, and taking ownership of the production infrastructure.

You will have overall responsibility for the development of all components of the Cattle Care software solution.

Remote work is only possible outside Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.

Annotation component — the software allows annotators to add labels and tags to the video to train our AI system to recognize objects and patterns on the video.
Current stack for Frontend: latest TypeScript + Next.js + React + Tailwind.
Back-office component — security module, management, financial reports, farm setting, API for annotation component, etc.
Current stack for Backend/Frontend: PG 15 + Python 3.10 + Django 4.2 + Tailwind + Celery.
Farmer’s front-office component — farmer dashboard, displaying video extracts with detected issues, graphs, and reports.
Current stack for Frontend: React 16 + Redux + Axios + ES2021 + TS + webpack + Bootstrap.
Current stack for Backend: MySQL + Python 3.6 + Django 2.2 + Celery.
Computer Vision component — our software taps into a dairy’s existing security cameras, capturing video from a milking shift and uploading it for processing to the company’s servers. The company’s video analytics algorithms can spot deviations from what a producer would expect to see in a milking parlor operating at 100 percent efficiency.
Current stack for pipelines: Python3.*, Flask2.3, Celery.

About us

At Cattle Care, using Artificial Intelligence, we increase the revenue of dairy farms and decrease GHG emissions, antibiotics, and hormone usage. We secured $3.2M in funding from serial angel investors, VCs, and domain experts.

We have 70 farms and $1.4M ARR; our company has grown 3X in 2022 and hit break-even. Tech Lead will help us scale the business to 140 farms and $5M ARR in 2024.

Skills and experience

5+ years of recent experience as a Fullstack Developer. You are hands-on and would like to stay hands-on.
Minimum 2+ years of team leadership experience, responsible for full life cycle delivery of complicated web-based products.
Must have experience with Python, Django, Docker/Docker Compose, relational database.
Nice to have: React, Google Cloud, Celery, CI/CD.
Experience working in or with distributed teams.
Previous experience in a startup environment.

What is in it for you

Salary of $8,000 a month. We can go up to $10,000 if you already have some experience as CTO or Head of Engineering in a successful startup.
Equity — up to 1.5%, so you have a reasonably good chance to become wealthy in your lifetime.
You will report directly to the CEO, and once you prove yourself, you will become (if yours and our stars align) a Company's Chief Technologist.
You will be involved in the development of Computer Vision components of our software.
This is a very unusual and interesting application of technology — our clients are huge milking farms in the US (and we are looking to extend the geography) with a number of cows from thousands to tens of thousands. You will have a right to call yourself a cowboy or cowgirl.
You will work with an extremely unusual breed of clients: rough-looking, tough-talking, hard-drinking farmers.
